Your Role as a Software Developer  
As a software developer at Hartwig, you will help build and improve the infrastructure and systems that support our analytical processes, internal operations, and external collaborations. Whether working on automation, integration, or core application logic, you will contribute to improving diagnostics and care for people with cancer.  

You will be part of an interdisciplinary environment where engineers, data specialists, and domain experts work closely to create clear, reliable, and efficient systems, with a shared focus on usability, sustainability, and meaningful impact.  

Your key responsibilities will include:  

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining robust software systems with a focus on automation, quality, and scalability.  
  • Building and improving CI/CD pipelines to support efficient and reliable deployment processes.  
  • Collaborating with internal and external technical teams to identify and implement system improvements.  
  • Contributing to the standardisation of workflows and development practices across projects.  
  • Exploring and introducing new technologies, tools, and methodologies to keep our systems modern and effective.  
  • Supporting integration and data exchange between systems, with attention to security, compliance, and performance.  
  • Working in cross-functional teams alongside data scientists, researchers, and other software developers.  

What We’re Looking For  

  • A Master’s degree in Software Engineering or a related field, with 3+ years of experience in software development, ideally in data-rich environments.  
  • Proficiency in Java or Kotlin (or similar languages), experience with cloud platforms (preferably GCP), and familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes, or comparable technologies. Experience with Python and MySQL is a plus  
  • A strong foundation in software development principles, including version control and writing efficient, high-quality code.  
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform is a plus.  
  • A genuine interest in leveraging technology to make an impact in healthcare; prior experience in the healthcare sector is beneficial but not required.  
  • An adaptable and collaborative approach, with the ability to thrive in dynamic settings, value quality, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

About Hartwig  

At Hartwig Medical Foundation, we are dedicated to ensuring that every cancer patient receives the most suitable treatment. For current patient care we achieve this by providing hospitals with comprehensive DNA testing and the software to analyze test results and suggest possible treatments and trials. For future patients we are supporting researchers in understanding patient DNA data by building a database combining DNA data and clinical data and making that data easily accessible.
