Requesting data from Hartwig Medical Foundation is now easier

As of September 1, 2026, the procedure for requesting data from the Hartwig Medical Database has been simplified. With this change, we aim to make it easier for researchers to submit a data access request.
A simpler request procedure
For new data requests, the existing License Agreement has been replaced by new General Terms & Conditions.
This new request procedure aligns with the mission of Hartwig Medical Foundation: improving care for patients with cancer. Hartwig collects patients’ genetic and clinical data securely and in coded form in the Hartwig Medical Database and makes it available for scientific research as effectively and quickly as possible. In this way, Hartwig contributes to knowledge about cancer and how to treat the disease.
Researchers thus work together to develop new and effective cancer treatments. In addition, a number of related documents have been updated.
Together with the Guiding Principles, the Rules of Procedure for Data Access Requests, and the Publication Policy, the General Terms & Conditions form the framework within which researchers gain access to data from the Hartwig Medical Database. Furthermore, it is now also easier for researchers to reference the data, thanks to the introduction of so-called DOIs.
What does this mean for you as a researcher?
The updated procedure applies to all new data requests as of September 1, 2026. The request process has been simplified and is intended to contribute to shorter turnaround times. In this way, we aim to make it easier for researchers to gain access to the data they need for scientific research.
Access to Hartwig data remains based on patient consent and is intended for scientific research and healthcare improvement in public interest.
New data requests only
The change applies exclusively to new data requests; existing License Agreements remain in effect.
