Hartwig Medical Foundation Australia
Hartwig Medical Foundation Australia is a data- and software-driven not-for-profit organization, dedicated to advancing cancer genomics. Established in 2016, Hartwig’s mission is to build and improve software for molecular diagnostics and treatment/trial matching for today’s patient and support a learning healthcare system for future patients through database functionality (storage, reuse, access, connectivity, visualization).
Building on the development of Hartwig’s core open-source bioinformatics tools (2018–2022), Hartwig Australia continues to advance this mission. In 2023–2024, this was further supported by the launch of OncoAnalyser, a comprehensive analysis pipeline, and expansion to support large panels.
Organization
Hartwig Medical Australia operates in close collaboration with Hartwig Medical Netherlands as a non-profit limited liability company guided by a multidisciplinary team of experts in genomics, informatics, and business development. Our structure supports innovation, collaboration, and clinical integration without listing individual names.

Achievements
- Creation of OncoAnalyser, a fully automated, scalable pipeline for molecular analysis and reporting.
- Flexible, platform-agnostic tools supporting WGS, large panels, and multimodal inputs (DNA, RNA, ctDNA).
- Clinical adoption of OncoAnalyser and participation in international pediatric data federation projects.
- Co development of a heamatological Panel used in standard of care for 10.000 patient per year
- Open-source contributions to the global genomics community via GitHub and nf-core..
Plans
Looking ahead, Hartwig Medical Australia aims to:
- Launch Software as a Service (SaaS) for OncoAnalyser by mid-2026, enabling cloud-based, automated molecular analysis and reporting.
- Expand OncoAnalyser usage to multiple
clinical laboratories. - Develop and validate low-cost,
open-source panels for heamatological and solid tumors.
Careers
