DR-509 Clinical utility and genomic predictors of treatment (non-)response in metastatic colorectal cancer

No Featured Image set

Metastatic colorectal cancer is treated with chemotherapy and targeted drugs. Although recent studies have identified genes that may predict how patients will respond to these treatments, only mutations in KRAS, NRAS and BRAF are currently used to guide routine treatment selection for anti-EGFR therapy. We will link whole genome sequencing data (DNA and, where available, RNA) to treatment outcomes in metastatic colorectal cancer patients, to identify biomarkers that are associated with (non-)response to chemotherapy and targeted therapy. We will also assess the theoretical clinical utility, including the detection of biomarkers indicating reimbursed treatments, biomarkers of (non-)response, germline findings, and pharmacogenetic variants. Taken together, this may support more personalised treatment decisions using WGS data, and help reduce delivery of ineffective therapies and unnecessary side effects.
